Theatrical performance on Samuel Champlain, a native of Brouage and founder of the city of Quebec in 1608.
In 45 minutes, discover the epic of this navigator, explorer and cartographer, born around 1567 in Brouage (now Charente-Maritime) and "Father of New France".
As a young man, Samuel Champlain saw so many ships loaded with exotic goods arrive at the docks of the fortified city and leave for distant lands that he began to dream of discovering these unknown lands and colourful peoples.
Through him, a part of French history is recounted, with the exploitation of salt in the ancient Gulf of Saintonge from the year 1000, the creation of Brouage, the wars of the Kingdom of France, the great explorations, the creation of New France, the siege of La Rochelle (1627-1628)... and the French emigration that built bridges between the two shores of the Atlantic.
This show will be held on November 5, 2022 in Brouage and will be created especially for the first edition of the "Attache ta tuque!" Festival dedicated to roots tourism (or genealogy) related to the history of New France.
